River Landing Independent Living Renovation

ID Collaborative blog post, project-spotlight

It always feels good to come home again. Hired to refresh 5 Independent Living and an Assisted Living building at River Landing after providing the initial design services 13 years ago, ID Collaborative aimed to create spaces that gave residents the feeling of arriving at a warm and gracious upscale home.

Recognizing the increased expectations of today’s prospective residents, the design team worked to bridge the gap between hospitality amenities and residential ambiance with a more modern, transitional approach to color, finishes, and furnishings. Textiles immediately set the mood by greeting you with bold stripes, rich florals, and fun geometric patterns. Custom woven carpets underfoot provide another layer of pattern texture with extreme durability. Wayfinding and variety were achieved by assigning each floor of the resident corridors a different color – deep blue, garnet, emerald green, and citron yellow paired with charcoal gray. To complement these new colors and textiles, new transitional furnishings were selected and new furniture layouts were developed to better support the functional needs of the residents and staff

IDC partnered with a few local companies in order to complete the transformation. Steele Group Architects worked with us to re-design the entire main lobby and Gift Shop layouts and ceiling details, and incorporate various architectural elements in strategic locations to further convey the transitional aesthetic. Archdale Millworks created a custom reception desk, Gift Shop millwork, granite-topped buffets on concealed casters, and custom angled puzzle tables with pull-out tablets for sorting pieces. Renaissance Contract Lighting created custom designed sconces flanking each resident door in all 5 of the Independent Living buildings, doubling the light levels in the previously dim hallways with a soft glow reminiscent of a luxury hotel. Renaissance also produced custom chandeliers on pulley system, for ease of long-term maintenance.

Using custom-designed pieces and layers of color, texture, and artwork, ID Collaborative worked with the client to create interiors as vibrant and welcoming as the staff and lifestyle enjoyed at River Landing.
