A new year means a new forecast of global color trends, and this year Pantone has chosen to highlight two colors rather than just one to hold the title of color of the year. The colors chosen are PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. Here’s the response by the VP of the Pantone Color Institute when asked about the decision to go with two colors “No one color could get across the meaning of the moment,” Laurie Pressman said on a call to the New York Times, “We all realized we cannot do this alone. We all have a deeper understanding of how we need each other and emotional support and hope.”
Illuminating gives a sense of warm optimism, which fuels encouragement to push past adversity. Ultimate Gray is an emblem for strength and dependability, solid and grounding. Together this color combination speaks to the feeling of hope and energy that is solidified by a firm foundation – much appreciated after the year of uncertainty. In terms of interior design this color combination can be used as a way to stand out or even incorporate concrete walls and floors paired with bright yellow furniture or accents.
