Like many other designers, we flocked to Furniture Market this past week in High Point. For those of you that are not familiar with Furniture Market, it’s basically fifteen city blocks packed with buildings full of furniture. And rugs. And lamps. And lighting. Some of it is good, some of it is breath-taking, and some of it should never see the light of day.
Furniture Market happens semi-annually, usually April and October, in downtown High Point, NC. It’s where buyers and designers go to see new releases, industry trends, and catalog items in real-life. Your sells rep will be more than happy to write an order for you on the spot. But it’s more than showroom after showroom of free food and tote bags. Furniture Market is a great place to see what’s trending in different areas of design. There are also lots of educational opportunities and seminars. You may even see a concert or two.
Furniture Market can be really overwhelming if you’re not prepared. Fortunately this was not our first rodeo and we went to Market with a “divide and conquer” mentality. We made a list of all the showrooms we were interested in seeing. Then we used the Market reference guides to locate each showroom and group them by location. When our day to go to Market finally came, we went in 3 groups. Between our 7 designers we took over 700 pictures of items we liked, loved, or already had projects to specify them for.
