While health and wellness still remain a top priority as COVID-19 continues, some flooring manufacturers are also coming up with ways we can slow the warming of our planet. 4 billion pounds of carpet waste ends up in landfills each year and as the demand for product rises, it is crucial to find a way to reduce this waste. While many manufacturers have take-back programs, it is necessary for them to establish a reuse program that will actually turn the old samples and scraps into new, usable product.
Interface’s ReEntry program diverts many pounds of used carpet from landfills to their Cool Blue system which creates a 98% recycled content backing that is just as high performing as its non-recyclable competitor. Most recently, Interface has launched The Brushed Lines Collection, an LVT which is comprised of at least 39% pre-consumer recycled content. The Brushed Lines LVT is a stepping stone for Interface as they continue to pursue their goal of becoming carbon negative by 2040. They ultimately aim to eliminate the use of any new materials and replace them with all recycled and bio-based materials.
